The Brownell Homestead Inn, established in 2017, offers guests premium accommodations in one of Seward's oldest residences. Located on First Avenue close to downtown, this home was built in 1903 and is known locally as the Brownell Homestead. It was also one of the main settings for the movie Sugar Mountain which was filmed in Seward in 2014.
Our Inn features three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the main level, along side an eat-in kitchen and large family room. The spacious kitchen is outfitted with everything you'll need to prepare meals for your whole group. A concrete patio on the front of the home offers a perfect spot to relax in the sun and barbecue on summer evenings.
Guests will enjoy beautifully preserved historic details throughout the home including hardwood floors and stately wooden beams that hint at the home's original log cabin facade. A master suite comprises the whole upper level of the home, where the bedroom offers views of Resurrection Bay. The master suite features a queen size bed and twin-size day bed with a twin-size trundle. Each of the bedrooms on the main level has a queen bed, making a total of 4 queen beds and 2 twin beds. There is also a queen size sofa-bed in the downstairs living room). Two washers and dryers are available for guest use in the home's historic basement.
Nestled on a large lot with mature trees, this property has a very private feel, while still within walking distance to historic downtown Seward, the waterfront park and the Alaska SeaLife Center. Brownell Homestead Inn is your group's perfect home base for your visit to Seward!
Doug Wight, the owner of Brownell Homestead Inn, is an avid mountain runner and a proud sponsor of Seward's famous annual Mount Marathon footrace. Racers, including Doug himself, race right past the Homestead Inn on their ascent and descent of the mountain each Fourth of July.
As a small note, we do encourage guests to refrain from cooking fish inside the unit; however, we do provide a grill for outdoor cooking of your local catch. We do not allow processing of fish on property.
